Maximilian Viatori is Professor of Anthropology and Associate Chair of the Department of World Languages and Cultures at Iowa State University, where he teaches cultural anthropology and Latin American studies. He has conducted ethnographic research in Ecuador and Peru since 2001. He is first author of Coastal Lives: Nature, Capital, and the Struggle for Artisanal Fisheries in Peru (forthcoming, University of Arizona Press), sole author of One State, Many Nations: Indigenous Rights Struggles in Ecuador (2010, School for Advanced Research Press), and has written numerous scholarly articles.
